Bro. Josef (Frldolln) SCHLIERENZAUER (PNG) 21.11.00; 36-57-59-65-**
A native of St. Gallen, Switzerland, Bro. Fridolin, son of Josef and Rosa Greber, entered Marienburg as a postulant 1956. After going through his novitiate at St. Gabriel he was assigned for a while in Varone, Italy before embarking in 1962 for Australia and pronouncing his final vows in Marburg.
After a short stint in Marburg and Brisbane he was assigned to PNG in 1973, to form part of the Leprosy Control Patrol in Yampu which successfully helped to eradicate that disease in the Engaregion. Shortly afterwards he worked at Divine Word College in Bomana before settling down for many years in the Wewak diocese. Since 1985, besides being the liaison between the government and many missionaries who needed to have their visas validated and their passports renewed, he faithfully shuttled many confreres to and from the airport. For The donating blood over a hand times he received a special award from the Red Cross.
Sometime in November his health suddenly began to decline and had to be flown out to Australia for treatment for eigl diabetes, kidney and heart ailments. He died peacefully last Pall Nov. 21 in a Hospital in Brisbane.
