Cardinal Ribat MSC as he takes possession of his Titular Parish in Rome (St Giovanni Baptista de Rossi)
To all our beloved people in PNG/SI and throughout the world, fb family, fans and friends, followers and enthusiasts the updates on my visit again to Rome this time round with Fr Ben Fleming to acommpany Cardinal Ribat MSC as he takes possession of his Titular Parish in Rome (St Giovanni Baptista de Rossi) during which Cardinal attends his meetings.
My purpose in accompanying them this time is pastoral and diocesan business trip which culminates when we're both going together on pilgrimage to Oleggio the home Parish of Venerable Henry Verius MSC.
So far the focus and media hype had been around His Eminence John Cardinal Ribat MSC KBE Archbishop of Port Moresby is the first Cardinal of PNG Solomon Islands as well as first for the MSC Congregation after their 162nd anniversary since their foundation.
For the Diocese of Bereina the real breaking news was the former Bishop of the Diocese of Bereina and now Archbishop of Port Moresby had been elevated to Cardinal by his Holiness Pope Francis.
In this light the pioneer MSC Missionary to Papua who landed at Yule Island on 1st July 1885 and first celebrated first Mass on 4th July 1885 and became the second Bishop of Papua (Yule Island) after Andre Navarre MSC was none other than Henry Verius MSC who was officially declared Venerable in Easter of 2016.
His human remains lays in the tomb of the parish Church in Oleggio in Turin and there is where we're going on this pilgrimage.
The second Bishop of the Apostolic Vicariate of Yule Island (now Bereina Diocese) has become Venerable Henry Verius MSC.
Following on the Apostolic succession the tenth (10th) Bishop of Bereina has become Cardinal is His Eminence John Cardinal Ribat MSC KBE.
In this tradition the current Local Ordinary and 11th Bishop of Bereina is accompanying the Cardinal on this special pilgrimage to Oleggio as our way of acknowledgement and expression of deep gratitude for the generosity and sacrifices of the MSCs and Daughters of OLSH who selflessly gave their lives as a pleasing sacrifice to God for the promotion of the wellbeing (integral human development) soul and body of the people of the Southern Region and PNG for that matter.
