Good evening everyone. Please allow me time to share my thoughts on the tragic and untimely death (murder) of Fr. Gerry Maria Inau.
I knew Fr. Gerry as a minor seminarian. He was my senior in many ways -a very diligent, committed and a great believer in God. Despite his difficulties in studies and many hardships as a result he never left his rosary beads, the only hope he had in the hopeless situation. I believe he prayed earnestly for Mary his mother's assistamce. He was ordained not because he deserved on merit for he never graduated but because Mary was on his side (the reason why he adopted name Mary before his surname). Fr. Gerry had a heart for his people..he knew love beyond all boundaries...for day and night he suffered to attain the graces necessary to be able to go back and serve his people. That is what he did until that tragic day when he was murdered with his comminion minister that Sunday by his own people whom he had longed and loved to serve as a priest.
A priest of God is not easy to find this days. We had to wait many years to have Fr. Gerry. I don't know how long we will wait to get the next one like him.
Despite all that which had happened may God give us wiadom to understand his death. May his death be a catalyst for the waring tribes in Kunimaipa valley to find peace. He has become the victim, the lamb of sacrifice and the altar of oblation. He is our bread of life and the cup of eternal salvation if we see that in light of Jesus of the Gospels (cf. Jn 6:26-63). Let us pray that we may be converted from our old ways and start to believe in the Gospel and allow it to transform our lives. Amen.
